The Cartographers’ Guild is a forum created by and for map makers and aficionados, a place where every aspect of cartography can be admired, examined, learned, and discussed. Our membership consists of professional designers and artists, hobbyists, and amateurs—all are welcome to join and participate in the quest for cartographic skill and knowledge.
Although we specialize in maps of fictional realms, as commonly used in both novels and games (both tabletop and role-playing), many Guild members are also proficient in historical and contemporary maps. Likewise, we specialize in computer-assisted cartography (such as with GIMP, Adobe apps, Campaign Cartographer, Dundjinni, etc.), although many members here also have interest in maps drafted by hand.

I love the color pallet of this map! Can you share any info on how you achieved it?
Thanks squeen This is a pencil drawing placed as a multiply layer over a low-saturation, textured page in photoshop. The only other things done to it are some digital shadow enhancements, and a some highlights. The shadows are just a pale warm grey on a multiply layer. And highlight are a similar, but lighter, pale warm grey on a soft light layer.
Thank you! The clouds (which I struggle with) are very, very good. Sorry, one more question: surely you inked some of the pencil lines? If not, how did you get them to contrast so nicely?
I use several different pencils. Most are lighter, but my finish fine line pencil leaves a quite nice dark line,so I use it for certain areas to leave very dark lines. It can be tricky to do a good scan that preserves the lighter line work as well.
