The Iron Canyon

This is a study for combining real-world topographic data with a fictional landscape.

I started with a lidar-derived dem of Meteor Crater in northern Arizona, then created a new landscape and geological story.

The story behind the fictional landform is a meteor impacted in the mountains, and the crater became a large lake. It remained this way for millennia, before a catastrophic breach collapsed one side of the crater, carved the massive canyon, and left a much lower lake.
