June / July '17 Lite Challenge: Map an Oasis

Our latest Lite Challenge had a suitably summery theme (for nothern hemisphere dwellers, anyway). Bogie wrote...

This Challenge is for you to map an Oasis. The obvious choice is to do the traditional palm trees surrounding a pool in the middle of the desert, but if that is not your thing, then come up with another type of Oasis. A rooftop garden in a big city, or a nice park with a pond in a city, a flower filled clearing in a dark deadly forest. Or you could go regional and map a large desert and show where all the Oases are along the trade routes.
Other than that you can make the map in any genre, any style you want.

Among our entries, we had a few regular desert oases. 'Alwayir' by HadrianVI depicts a city located on a large sea in the middle of a huge desert. Krieghund's entry 'Oasis of the White Palm Remix' was inspired by the eponymous oasis in Oasis of the White Palm adventure, from the classic D&D Desert of Desolation series. 'Herkunft to Reiseziel' by mixerbach shows a trade route following a harrowing journey through mountainous country and scalding hot desert.

Other mappers went with a rather looser interpretation of oasis. Corilliant created 'Rush - The Oasis of Deathball' showing a small trading settlement located on a planet with a similar toxic environment to Venus. Mouse's entry was loosely inspired by the depiction of Malacandra in the writings of CS Lewis' Cosmic Trilogy. NathanC reminded us that 'Not All Deserts have sand' in his map of a hot springs oasis, inspired by a picture of an oasis in Mongolia. Straf's entry 'An Oasis in the Madness' showed a a local nature walk, complete with photos, mapping an oasis of calm within the madness of modern life!

Our winner this month is Wired, who cleverly managed to combine a client commission with the challenge criteria, and created 'Dreavien and the Temple of Life'. His map shows "a large desert wasteland with dunes, mesas, dried river beds and old impact craters ... but myth has it that deep inside the desert an impossible oasis and a temple are hidden that hold the keys to life eternal."

Congrats to Wired who wins his first Silver Compass. Take a read through the Work In Progress thread here.

July / August Lite Challenge : Map a Hidden Treasure

Our new Lite Challenge is up and this month we're treasure hunting...

This Challenge is for you to map hidden treasure. You can go with a classic and map the palace treasure room, or a tomb with the wealth of the ages hidden somewhere inside. It could be a treasure map showing the way, or a regional map with the treasure cave marked on it. You Guilders are creative so I'm sure many of you will come up with ideas I would never have considered, and they will be strange and wonderful. ( but keep it clean, there are young-uns here )

More info from Bogie in the intro thread here. Let's find the path to uncounted riches this month!
