    Ascension,

I'm new to mapping and photoshop but have decided to attempt something using your tutorial for antique style maps using Photoshop. It should be doubly interesting as I'm completely new to Photoshop. I figure I have half a chance due to the detail and quality of the tutorial - thanks for that.

I'm planning on making a medieval map with a landmass approximately the size of Australia and similar in habitat - everything from desert to wetland, jungle, etc...I was thinking of using more "hand drawn" icons for trees, wetlands and mountains similar to those on the maps found in The Hobbit and LOTR but am unsure of representing jungle-like areas or desert as I'm planning on making it just black and white other than some aging effects. Do you have any ideas that might point me in the right direction?

    Thanks,

    Jord

    Ascension,

I'm looking to create a bunch of new maps for a friend of mines RPG that he is developing. I'm a new "map maker" so to say with Photoshop CS4. I could really use some help in making the maps that look like satelite imagery. Please contact me at webmaster@khazaddum.net.

    >> I like seeing maps done in gaming software...just to see what's possible. I've tried the Neverwinter Nights one and the Middle Earth one...with horrible results

Dwarf Fortress has an amazingly powerful map generator. Not counting all of the settings you can give it there are roughly a billion seeds you can use to create maps. There there are the actual parameters...69 of them by my count that effect the landscape itself--I'm counting subregion size as an applicable variable, along with caves which are location features (like buildings)--with another dozen or so for the historical events (History has its own seed value too! That's a billion histories on each of a billion possible worlds!).

  8. Photoshop CS, an 8 year old pc running XP, and a basic mouse. If you don't have Photoshop, download GIMP (free) and read through Bryguy's tut on converting it to GIMP.
  9. Hi, just looked through the tutorial for "making planets, moons..." etc but I was wondering, which program did you use to do this and would is be compatible with Windows Vista or Windows XP?

LOL! Save money... The way the economy is going we may be trading rabbit pelts for computer programs. =) I am VERY impressed with your maps. You are the reason I decided to step-up to the plate, as it were. You have some very serious talent I wish we had at Chaosium back in the early 80's.
