    Good evening RobA

First of all I owe you a great thanks. I have always wanted to create digital maps but was a complete loss and your tutorial for the seaside map is a life saver. I am actually on the Bump mapping step and I have a question.

On your screenshot you show the preview of the bumpmap filter operation and we can clearly see the relief. I am following your steps carefully and I don't see the relief nor do I get any results after going through the motions.

For clearer information, you should know that I am using GIMP 2.6.4 and that my map's resolution is larger than yours standing at 3300x2550 pixels which is 300PPI for letter paper size 8.5 x 11.

I figure you are very busy helping out those newbies but if you have a moment to look into my request I would be grateful.

    Thank you

    Regards

    Ghorgor Cram

I just wanted to personally thank you for all your excellent tutorials. They are easy to follow for the complete newbie and expansive enough to force some learning and growing to happen. You helped get my artwork up enough that I'm excited about learning (because I have nifty results now) rather than daunted by it. Thanks so much and I hope you keep adding to your tutorial selection. I will be posting my first "RobA Tutorial conglomerate" map once I finally work my way to the end of your tutorials.
  4. Hey Rob, the topic http://forum.cartographersguild.com/...?t=1932&page=5

Not a photorealistic one no. I will actually being doing it twice. Once a not so close up to put on a map of the valley...and then a slightly closer one. The bigger version will be B&W more then likely more like a floorplan or a layout nothing overly fancy.

yes i do have an example of the castle I have in mind. The one that comes the closest to what I have in mind is Conwy. Not sre exactly where it is I found the image ages ago and can't remember now.

I saw your tutorial on the map for gimp and its really great and informative. I am working on making a map for my own world for a story I'm working on and a D&D campaign. I was wondering if you also had a tutorial for drawing castles. I have a pretty good idea how it will look just not where to start. Its the towers that have me lost...aka how to draw them and connect them to the walls.

I discovered majhost, back when it was just maj, through paleontology-themed forums such as Gondolend or Dinoforum (I can't remember which first) but it was a guy nick'd "Aspidel", a regular in both, who mentioned it as a no-hassles image host for forum posts relating to one's forays into illustrating dinosaurs. Haven't looked back since

Maybe this was too much information, but you did ask
