Here's an in progress map i've started that i consider my first ever, to this kind of quality at least.

I take it the top one is yours and you want to duplicate the bottom style?

Your top image, you already have a good grip on the actual landmass, and the texture you used is lovely.
I don't know how you are planning to tackle the next step, but I can say this, you have to learn how to use Cast and Core shadows effectively and then a touch of highlights to get the mountains to pop like in the bottom one.

Thanks! When i get into land details i'll definitely take a look into Cast and Core shadows. I really like Callum's style in the bottom one (sorry for not clarifying which one was mine and his) which he himself said he based off Tolkien's hand drawn style which i really like too.

Messed around with the Magic Wand tool in Photoshop as well as the Expand, Contract, and Feather options and used Clouds for the first time and found a style for the ocean i like so far. Added two more coastlines off the land and now here's the new WIP.
