    Default Experiment on shapes for islands

    Hi there
    Not sure i'm gonna finish that stuff into a real map, but here's a small experiment mixing tribal tatoo shapes converted in islands.
    For the process, i took a random tribal tatoo image on the web, use inner and outer glow in photoshop for basic elevation and played a bit with wilbur.

    I think i've used too complex shapes, but maybe the process could be a bit more usefull on just a few islands.
    Also a mix of the result in space art style:

    Yep. You can also get interesting effects by going pseudo-3d ( https://cartographersguild.com/album...chmentid=75932 ). It might be interesting to use separate mountain/coast masks to get a coastal range along the outside rim instead of just the basic mound effect.

    Fun! But yeah, I think you chose a very complex shape, indeed. The Nebula is gorgeous, though .

    You're so good with wilbur, i wish i could finish with that kind of render!

    Yep, maybe a better use of that kind of shapes could be to depict some color variations in an ocean, a bit like i did on the nebula (i took the basic shape, blur it and use the smudge tool);

    You know what might be really interesting is to take that island map and distort the shape a little, to add asymmetry. It might look like the tattoo design was inspired by the shape of the islands, but stylized.
