I don't know if anyone has seen this or not, and I kind of feel bad starting a whole thread for it but I saw this on Colossal and immidately was wondering how I could use it to make maps: These Beautiful 3D Topographies Rendered by Lee Griggs Look Like Weather Patterns and Ocean Floors | Colossal



He's rendered this with software, but I was thinking at first it was matchsticks. Now I'd kind of like to make a matchstick topographical map. Which would take forever.

The stuff in the link is pretty cool. The allure of 3d modeling is strong. So much can be done.

Hmm looks almost like a 3d printer. I'll have to go read the link. Dang he is using Maya, this must be pretty time consuming, I'm impressed.
