    Question A question about resolution/size

Hello, I have a bit of a complex question.

I do almost all of my maps in mixed media, starting with traditional drawing on A4 paper, inking and then continue to PS to polish it and colour it. I've had some issues with my scanner so currently I am mostly taking photos of my maps with my phone and using that as a reference point while working in ps. I've noticed that the quality drops significantly when I do that, so I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions how I could increase the resolution and quality of the final map?
And what are your usual go to sizes and resolutions when mapping?

    Thank you in advance.

The resolution of the final image will depend on how many megapixels your camera takes (and if you set it to take full advantage of that). To get good pictures of a flat piece is to take it from far away and zoom in. It is easy to do this by taking the drawing and taping it to a wall that faces a window and move the camera as far back as possible on a tripod and then take it. Ideally this would be done on an overcast day, but in a pinch you can probably also diffuse the light by putting a white sheet over the window. Also ideally there will be no shadow falling on the picture or if there is (like from being in a room) it will be uniform. Anyhow as a non-photographer those are my thoughts on taking pictures of flat work.

High resolution for creating the work and then you can always (to an extent) shrink it to fit from there, so long as you know what final size you are looking for.

Edit: For the zoom I mean so long as it stays within the physical optical limits (which is why its easier to do in an SLR camera or SLR-like camera which has the appropriate lens) of the machine and not an interpolated computer generated zoom.
