Help How do I draw a city in space?

I've got this idea for a city that sits on a ring around a planet, but I've been doing some sketches in pencil and haven't really got anything that looks the way I want it to. I'm thinking I'll have to do it in GIMP, which I don't really know how to use. Can anyone assist in any way?

You can look for a ring world.

I've found an example here: https://www.cartographersguild.com/showthread.php?t=43236

You could also look for O'Neil Cylinder, like the Citadel in Mass Effect

    and Dyson Sphere.
