Got a little bit of mountains in.. Not 100% I'm going to keep this style, but now that I've started I probably will.

So I've gotten the coastline and rivers, and threw on some mountains just to get a feel for it. No sure what style I will end up doing... it'll come together.

So... I'm still undecided.. I've gotten a few more mountains with the isometric view, but I would really like to have it a top down more political map. However I've hardly done top down maps before and I'm not too good at it. Top down gives it a better sense of scale, and I would like to have lots of detail on it, which I think it is better for too.
Here's the iso version, I'll probably end up sticking with it, but I don't think the river fit in this style (I think I made the rivers too thick in the first place so I need to change them). If I stay with this style do you think I should make the mountains smaller (it is after all a very large country).

Here's the top down mountains test, but I'm not very good at it so I'll probably end up sticking with the iso.

I can try to show something soon on some top down styles.
What I'm doing right now on mine is just the ridge/range lines.
Your iso look good. The scale is also one of my reasons for going top down.

Haha, I would've totally missed that if you hadn't said something

I've decided to stick with isometric and I downscaled my mountains, to make the map seem bigger.
So here it is, basically the only thing I have in so far is the mountains, I'm working on making the rivers look more isometric.. I put some notes on the map as a began building the country.

Josiah's Lands.jpg
So basically this country's in a bit of a mess. The 'Empire' (don't have a name for it yet) are the true rulers of the land, but more than half of the country doesn't recognize that and resists. The Empire only controls a small coastal strip of land to the west. The central prairie is pretty empty, but there are some cheese farmers there who do not like being ruled by the empire, and it is too far for the empire to completely enforce the rule. Meanwhile there is a network of secret monk peoples who live in hidden cities and a big part of their religious duties is to keep the kingdom free of the evil cheese. They believe it is evil and must be eradicated from the land. So they dedicate their lives to destroying cheese from the land.
Meanwhile up northeast there is a kingdom who proclaim themselves a separate country from the empire and everyone else. And up north there is a prairie full of warring tribes.. So yeah..
Okay, that was really badly written, I'll write some better stuff later.
Hello neighbour! Besides some worrying about northern alliances (i think the nahaduan emmisary spoke of "pernicious southern territories" ), i'm glad to hear your empire is falling somewhat apart due to inner struggles... ^^
Your mountains are awesome already. Looking forward to see my future... ehm... your lovely realm develop!
Map is not territory...
