I'm able to get decent hachuring fairly quickly in Inkscape using path effects and the Tweak tool.

Path Effect: Pattern along path with a short straight line, adjust to get lines perpendicular to the path at the spacing and length you want.
Path Effect: Sketch, adjust the parameters to get one slightly jittered line for each line in the original path.
Path Effect: Pattern along path with a tear drop shape.

Apply the complete path effect to any paths you want to be hachured and adjust them to get them looking good.

Object to path then break apart. Now each stroke is a distinct object. Select them all and use the tweak tool. You can "paint" on changes to size and width and push the shapes around.

Try adding a small amount of size and angle jitter?
