    Default Map with fractals

Fractals are features "that exhibits a repeating pattern that displays at every scale."

Wouldn't it be awesome if we drew a coastline, and the variations on the coastline were similar to the big outline? If the road system branded out into smaller copies of itself? This is what mapping with fractals would look like.

    Just an idea.

Real-world coastlines are already statistically fractal (well, typically multifractal), as are road and river networks. In the real world, there are typically a limited number of scales over which this fractal behavior repeats.

Most of us already do this when we draw a coastline

Your definition is good, too many people think fractal means "jagged and irregular", neither of which has anything to do with fractals.

but for land a fractal is really not the best - too repeating

noise , now that is a bit better
FBM is normally a bit better than perlin
