    Default Qanat: The Broken World

This is an 'ancient cataclysm' type of world, could've been magical or technological in origin, I don't know yet. This will be another relief map, but this time I'll be trying for some more realistic colors rather than my usual sepia or gray. We'll see what happens.

Print size will be 18" by 12", but I'll probably post the WIPs at 50% resolution. First step is my per usual, determine coastlines.

Diamond, you do good coastlines. A lot of people think "fractal" means jagged and irregular, but that is completely wrong. Fractal is something entirely different, and yours have that quality (whether deliberate, or just a good eye). Very nice.

Very lovely coastlines indeed. I also like that there are a lot of islands. Makes me want to get my ship ready and go explore!

Here's the mountains. I still need to rough things up a bit via textures and some painting, but this is the gist of the topography.

This is probably all I'll have time for until next weekend, but I bit off a pretty big bite today.

One more post tonight. I'm going to redo the glacier in the south; leaving the mountains in there kind of ruins the effect. I may just erase the mountains from that area and put in some subtle broken ice type of texture and see how that looks. Maybe extend it to some ice floes and such too.

beautiful colors and textures. Does it seem odd that the colder region is further from the pole? Just a thought, nice start, will follow this one.
