I've experimented with so many different ways of colouring this water that I can't even stand the sight of it anymore, so I've settled on this one.

I'd really like to hear you're opinions about my colour choice on the water, because I'm just not sure if it suits the style.

I think I'll work on doing some shading around the coast on the land next.

I don't know about the other guys, but I think it suits just fine. Anything more would draw attention away from the land. Your mileage may vary, of course.

The water looks great, though I did like the monochrome look too, so, err, I can't decide!

Have you tried having the colour around the shorelines fade out as it gets further away from land? That allows you to clearly define the edge of the land but without losing the relatively monochromatic look. Just a thought.

I'm really loving where you're going with this.

Diamond- You’re absolutely right, anything more really does draw away from the land. I tried many different ways. Any darker, and the land looks like hell, and any lighter the water looks greyish, and muddled.

ChickPea- I did try fading it in on the edges like diamond had suggested early on, maybe it’s just that I don’t quite know how to do it properly, but it seemed to make the coast too pronounced. Any way I tried, and oh did I try, I just found it a bit distracting. I may try again, I learn something new every day, but so far I’ve had no luck.

Josiah VE- Thanx, I spent allot of time trying to figure out how to make a custom brush to get the rough line, and get those squares to line up properly, making the corners match up was probably the hardest thing I’ve done so far.

Robulous- Thank you so much, I really appreciate you’re support.

Which trees do you like better?

I darkened the water a bit, and made it a bit bluer, but the thing I'm concerned with is what style of trees to do. I did some testing on a couple of different styles, there not perfect, I'll spend more time, and make them nicer once I decide what style to do, but for now I'm wondering if anyone has any opinions on what style they like best for this map.
I only did a small patch for each, and marked them with an arrow.

    Beautiful map!

The single trees look better... you could draw groups of them - sort of a cross between the two?

J.Edward does a really good blend of the two - see his Harlasea map - for possible ideas?

The individual trees look MUCH better with this style of map, I think.

Wow, how did I miss this thread before?

It's coming along great, Kacey - you really do have a knack for this. Your mountains turn me green with envy. I love the overall look already, the texture and the simple colors. Keep at it, it'll be great!

I agree with Mouse and Diamond, I too prefer the individual trees. I'd maybe personally make them just touch smaller, but that's just me.
