Guild City

A very simple idea, with an enormous range of possible interpretations...

Before I came here the first time, Ladiestorm once described the Guild to me as being like a vast virtual city where all the artists and publishers lived and worked side by side with each other, and where all the available software apps were the shops in that city, with the forum as the centre piece - the great square, or the temple

Maybe we can map this enormous and beautiful city of cities together - any and all styles welcome - as is the truly cosmopolitan tradition of... 'Guild City'

The poll is a head count of how many would like to either take part or watch this spectacle

This Challenge idea has been converted to a community project idea to draw a map of Guild Gity/the City of Guild, following the same principles as the Guildworld project last year, and where each participant will be allocated a section of the city to draw. I have made a list below of everyone who wishes to take part in this project.

I was going to map a city in the Guildworld project that was basically like a big Guild city... the city of Guild, I planned to call it.

I think trying to put together an entire city in a month would be way too much to try to take on...But perhaps mapping a section of one? I think that would be very cool to do!

It doesn't have to be done as a 'challenge'. It could be done as an addition to the Guildworld project.
We could thus work it out over a different span of time to allow for everyone, if that is something people would like to do.
Just another option that is available.

I hadn't thought of that. Great idea - then we could each have a section to do... but that would require a Master City Builder to generate the overall layout of the city first, with the main roads linking them together clearly marked at the intersections - so that it would all come together nicely like a jigsaw... ummm... J.Edward?

There would also need to be at least one person willing to do any of the sections that got left over or unfinished after the main effort was over, so that we would end up with a whole city, rather than just bits of one, and maybe a time limit for the main effort, so that we all stay focussed and motivated? 2 months? 3 months? More? A suitable time period that would make the building a pleasure, rather than a stressful race - quality over haste.

Who would do that?

LOL! I'm thinking that maybe we should consider having a Debating Palace... and a Last Resort gladiator's ring as well, where the mapping gets dirty every Saturday Night - for settling all such disputes

Thank you Bogie for creating such a, err, delightful residence! Still, is that a barrel of ale I see? Maybe things aren't so bad after all...

EDIT: I forgot to say... I think J.Edward's idea of making it more of a community project rather than a monthly challenge could be something to consider. There was such a buzz around here last spring with Guildworld. It'd be great to try to recreate that.

Inspiration Park, The (wailing) Wall of Despair, Inkland, Shaded Row, Aspiration Tower, Challenge Arena...

EDIT: Oh, and of course - ChickPea House And then there's Mapper's Corner, where you can stand up on a soap box and speak your thoughts on trees... or mountains - whichever takes your fancy

And... dear me! we can't possibly have a map without Cartographer's Block, and the very notorious Red Map Area!
