Here it is, I hope it's still readable...

Here's an other update, the second part of the story...

I know I cheated a bit with the scale... and the position of the cart... but... you know...

    Beautiful lighting and colours

I really like the 'graphic novel' feel to this map

You're welcome - praise where its most definitely due

I'm in the same boat as Diamond - not enough time to finish. But don't worry about that now. There are more than enough very beautiful entries to this challenge to choose from, and I doubt that mine not being there at the end will make very much difference. This is going to be a very stiff competition - an almost impossible vote, the way things are shaping up - especially with yours

I know the story is more cheezy than a swiss fondue, but it's the theme of the challenge that brought me that simple story... "where it all began" brought me back in 83 or 84. I was 14, I guess, and discovered new friends at school that weren't playing football during recess, but talking with enthusiasm about a "roleplaying game", about dungeons and dragons (we weren't called "nerds" at that time... but we still were considered "different")
For me, a door opened in my life... a door that never closed since : my God ! Other worlds, adventures, dreams, stories ! It all fell on me like an avalanche !
I still remember the red box of the game, just translated in french. Only one store in Geneva sold dices and adventure booklets... I remember that this box was for level 1 to 5 (I guess), so when a character was reaching level 6, we had to start a new one, because the blue box wasn't available in Europe... And when the advanced rules went out (the blue box) it wasn't translated, so we learnt english by ourselves (it was programmed is school, but only 2 years later). I remember we had to wait for an accointance going to Paris to buy us new adventures or figurines (no internet, by that time)... And I remember every monday night, in the little living room of a family's friend, diving in a world of goblins, magicians and orcs... I remember my father being upset by those new "roleplaying games" because he didn't know what it was... until he realised I could read english early and the he didn't bother me with those long nights playing... I remember laughing so loud and so long during those adventures, about the stories, but mostly about the choices we made, the answers we gave each other.. sometimes it helped going through difficult times, putting real situation or people in the middle of a dungeon and dealing with it... So many and so good memories are there : "where it all started" because the simple story I've made here is just the kind of stories that would make us start a new booklet of adventure , at level 1, with just a character's sheet, a pencil and a grid sheet to draw, square, by square, the plan of the dungeon as we were walking through the caves... And guess who was drawing that map most of the time ?

ps : I even remember that we were so thrilled with no other reasons that on the box, the editing company (TSR) was located in "Lake Geneva, WI"... kids...
