This is really looking great! I can't imagine completely switching things up so late into the challenge, but it looks fantastic for all that.

Thanks straf, Ottehcnor and Tenia. Didn't get a chance to work on this yesterday after eating and household chores. Hopefully today, and yeah, labeling could be an issue. Gonna have to find right font style and size(s) along with just enough glow to make it show without being distracting.

Thanks nopkin. Think I have a suitable plan for the labeling. In the mean time...
First forest test. Fairly happy with the coloring but not feeling so confident about the distribution, so may have to give this another shot tomorrow or Thursday. Worst case scenario is that I have a solution by Friday so that Saturday can be dedicated to labeling. Have a feeling that this is going to be an eleventh hour completion.

This is looking awesome GW! However I would say about the forests, that the colours are good, but the texture needs so be finer/smaller. It almost looks like it has been smudged.
I'd agree. The mountains and land textures are crisp,
and the forests would fit in better if they also had a crisp texture.
It will definitely be crisper next time round. Shaping and placement is what I am struggling with right now. Being too much of a perfectionist about them at the moment and, probably, a bit too tired to work coherently on this tonight. Had an "emergency" management meeting this afternoon that added 4 hours to my day. Gonna be so totally peeved if work eats up what little time I have left to work on this when I am getting so close to being done with it.

Made a few color and lighting adjustments in hopes of making this more label friendly then ran a high end render while struggling with forest shaping and placement (again hoping to be able to finish that up tomorrow or Friday at the latest). Water color is a lot lighter than it really should be but going too much darker will make labels harder to see. I may still need to tweak the grass coloring a little bit. There is one shade of green in there that I am not quite happy with but, sans forests, this should be pretty close to what the final render will look like.
