    Default My web-based mapping software with hexagons

    Hello !

    I made a web-based tool to draw hex maps. I'm pretty proud of it but I'm sure you would have advice on what's missing or what can be improved.

    Here's the link : http://hextml.playest.net

    You might have guessed it but I made it mostly for my own DMing needs. I don't think it's very usable outside of that but who knows ...

    Try it and tell what you think Any issues can be posted in the comments or on Github's issue tracker.

    If you plan on using it I have to warn you: everything is stored in your browser, I have no backup. Save you work on your own computer in the "Maps" tab.

    If you have ideas for improving the help texts (small and grey) that describe some of the functionalities leave a comment below and I'll take it into account. English is not my mother tongue so I often make very convoluted sentences.

    Edit: version 5 is out, same website, same address

    I made a small update! The save and import buttons are more visible (they are now also in the toolbar on the top) and it works better on safari! Good mapping

    For the holidays everyone gets a premium account. You can use it's google account to save its project on the server (keep saving your map on your computer, it's still in beta). To enable it just go into the Account tab.

    I also implemented Fog of war. You can paint fog of war on your hex. By default those hexes are just darker but if you enable it in the menu bar those hexes will become blank. If you share the map with anyone with the link in the account tab the fog of war will be enabled by default.

    Default A third update!

    The version 3 is here

    Take a look: http://hextml.playest.net/

    Now you can zoom on your map! Yeah it sounds easy but you have how difficult it was ^^

    There is also a outline mode for your maps and a huge number of fixed bug.

    Multiple people can now work on the same map at the same time.

    Players can now see roads and rooms revealed in real time on their phone or tablet a few milliseconds after the GM removed the fog of war on its computer.

    It's quite easy but you should probably read the [corresponding part of tutorial](http://hextml.playest.net/tutorial2.html?sub=5) anyway. I also made a video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-MM2pV-yuRY) and a gif (https://imgur.com/gallery/zzfQcfE) that shows some of the functionalities.

    It was my only goal on Patreon which is only 5% complete... don't care! Wanted to do it.

    Anyway! Many more improvements on this version:

    * Maps should load faster
    * I made a USA hex map (http://hextml.playest.net/usa2016.html)
    * Sharing the website on a social networks shows a preview
    * There is splash screen now, I'm not fond of them but some users were drawing before the full page was loaded and it was causing problem.
    * And many other small improvements

    For the future:

    * Rethink of the interface
    * Make some objects movable between hex

    I hope you will have fun using it

    Talk about it with your friends and other people in english-speaking and non-english-speaking community (even if it's only in english :/).

    As usual the previous version (http://hextml.playest.net/v3.3/) is available.

    The version 5 of Hextml is out! Try it and tell me what you think of it.

    The main changes are:

    * You can drag and drop icon on the map
    * New stamp tool: more icons, anything can be an icon!
    * Better (much better) interface on mobile
    * Less chance to lose you maps by mistakes
    * It's easier to use custom tiles and icons
    * Outline mode improved
    * Find your notes easily
    * You can resize text blocks
    * Collaborative mode is enabled by default.
    * Button are more colorful because I'm happy!
    * Less traffic usage

    If you like what I do you can help me by becoming a patron and you'll get some rewards (the main one beeing that you will be able to save your maps on the server and have access to them from anywhere).

    Also here's the previous version if you need it.

    Some explanations that were too long for a changelog:

    * New stamp tool: this new tool is just like the paintbrush except it paints icons
    * Less chance to lose you maps by mistakes: local save (saving in the persistent browser memory) is just one click away and it will restart automatically if you reopen the same map
    * It's easier to use custom tiles and icons: custom tiles and icons can be directly uploaded from the terrains tab (one whole tab removed!)
    * Outline mode improved: outline mode is better than ever, it now only displays hexes with content, much easier when you forgot where you took a specific note
    * Find your notes easily: you can enable note markers, "..." will be displayed over hexes with notes, the outline mode is also an easy way to search through your notes with `ctrl + f`
    * Less traffic usage: data are saved to the server less frequently if and only if it is useful

    TLDR: Here is a link to the new version of Hextml.
