    Default A little Inkscape thing...

To apply a blur behind text in Inkscape, I was taught the technique in which you duplicate the text, change the colour of the hidden copy, and blur it. I've tried it right now, and it works... but when I try it with just one number (for a guide to city maps) it simply doesn't work. I mean, I don't do anything differently. I type the number (1), depulicate it, alt+click to get the copy behind it, then change the colour... only it changes the colour of the number at the front.
Damn. What am i doing wrong? It's the same thing I do for sentences...
