Did you manipulate a photo image inside the ring or is that all painted?

    Great idea this.
I am using lots of pictures, mostly from Google Earth , then I ampainting, tweaking , manipulating in all the ways I can ...

The Ring is instead created in 3dsmax and shade rendered but no textures, I am trying to paint in those ...

Here is a new preliminary wip ...

This gives an idea of the way I am going , but all is just rough and not final , especially the clouds, the night city lights and stuff like that ...

Very nice image and concept. It reminds me of a video I once saw, you may like it too:

Its not quite the same but has a similar concept. I too liked Halo but I dont think they made much of the ring effects in the playable world. I expect it was too difficult to do and also the scale of the ring in that game was very large.

It sure looks cool. I'm not able to figure out what the brown stuff is out on the far side but I understand this is still in the rough phase. I'm diggin it tho.

Should be city lights. The sunlit part is the nature reserve.

Yes are city lights but just an experiment, they do not look good and I am still thinking for a way to make them better looking...

In meanwhile a new wip ...

I wasn't a big fan of the city lights but that latest wip is just splendid and remind me spray/aerosol? artists from the seventies

@Tenia Thankyou... the city lights was a test, still not have dropped the idea though ... also I want do add lots of little lights on the structure , need to fix some shadings, then planning a scorched Earth on the right or a gas giant if not able to make the first... then starlights etc ... may be a spaceship too...

What you mean by spray areosol and 70?
@Redrobes nice video ... incredible that its all procedural and so huge... yet doesn't look repetitive.

I am completely blown away. If you stopped right there it'd have my vote.

This looks so great! Amazing work. Will you add labels or some text?

    Cheers,
