There have been a lot of great suggestions on this thread already, so I won't repeat them. All will say is master the tools that you have, rather than feeling like more programs, apps, tools, and gear will make you a better artist. Better quality tools will improve your workflow and are of course beneficial...but a skilled artist can make a masterpiece with his children's crayons if he wants to. The tools don't make great art, a skilled artist does. And those skills are learned over a lifetime of failures and sheer determined progress. But, anybody can learn to draw if they have the desire to do so.
