Map Nephilim, new edition of a French RPG

Hello my fellow Mapmakers and welcome to a little mapfest !

Today, I’m finally allowed to share a handful of maps I did a while ago.

At the beginning of November, I was contacted by Mnémos, a French fantasy publishing company to redraw roughly twenty black and white plans and maps for the new edition of the French RPG Nephilim (late 80’s, early 90’s). The plans, (between 1/4 A4 and A4 in size) were needed on the 22nd of December … I had other commissions in the works but couldn’t pass the opportunity so, I went to work like a crazy bee. Bear in mind that these maps were drawn for the most part in 4 to 6 hours with a couple of exceptions (easily spottable) for which I lost some sleeping hours and gave more like 12 hours of dedicated work. Hopefully, the project shifted a bit. The number of maps was lowered and the deadline extended. Still, I did draw eleven maps in less than 45 days with a full time job on the side and an occasionally sick (and reluctant to not wake up five times each night) baby at home so, I’m pretty proud of myself.

The variety of plans was a real challenge but it allowed me to tackle map styles I had never done before such as top down buildings and their surroundings, floor plans and city maps.

The pace at which I did the maps makes for uneven quality but I like to think I stayed as close to the demand as I could. When I strayed from the path the publisher had set for me, it was to deliver something more ambitious so, they were pretty satisfied with the end products. Some maps show real places and taking inspiration from satellite images to rectify some of the old drawings was a nice touch. Also, it is all in French.

I hope you like them and, as always but more than ever in this case, critics are welcome.

Those are some cool maps, I like the castle one especially it seems very much like something you could find in the real world.

Great work Thom. I can see J.Edward's influence in some of those, especially the town maps.

Sadly can't rep you at the moment.

    Nicely done.
Congrats on such a big commission.
How did you feel working on this sort of content?
Do you enjoy it as much as regional maps?

Incredible job! Very impressive work ethic there. It's really cool to be able to see your style throughout a range of beautifully designed maps drawn in different perspectives.

    Wow! What a job!!!!!
Very impressive in the rendering and especially in such a short time! I can't imagine the stress and pressure! But a great success! It's really very interesting to see how, under pressure, you've managed to get out of your style and produce some very surprising pieces: I think of the city of Krymmene and the property of Saint-Ylliades, in particular: I find them very successful, and it's very promising! Impressive how you have broadened your range of skills! And it's really very satisfying to see publishers calling for your work: it's the road to success (and the end of the teaching?)
As you said: we see that some maps are less worked on than what you usually do, but I imagine that the result is achieved without problems: we see what it is all about and a certain atmosphere is set...
I think it's a great success in your career as a illustrator ! Congratulations!

That is an insane schedule, props for you to be able to get all this work done on time Thomas! For 4-6 hour pieces, some in styles you'd never attempted before, these are terrific!

Splendid set Thomas. I remember seeing some wip of them on twitter and you said you have to hurry with them
Honestly, I don't handle pressure so good, I don't know if I would agreed to do so many maps knowing I dont have so much time. KUDOS.
