It could be fun to have some bones in the water Who knows of the dangers lurking beneath the waters surface!
Thank you Pomb. I appreciate the message.
If you talk about the left side in the dark, do you mean the shadow the cliffs cast on the left? (That one is a tricky one, if I reduce the shadow, it might not look as deep. But I am open to alternative suggestions.)

The bones idea is a good one. I might try to add some. Thanks.

I just want to say, it is fun to see another South African on here.

    Have a nice day,

    Hellooee!

Though I kind of like the fiery feel of the reddish border, it didn't sync entirely well with the map. So, I changed it.
Also, I added a big monster skull to the map. Still deciding if I want it in or not.

A smallish change. It has been something that has popped up more than once, so I upped the lightness of the map.

EDIT: Now that I look at this one and previous versions, the map was actually crazy dark. Sorry for that.

If I can be blunt I'd say the map is too good for the border you added. The main problem is one of linewidth. I guess if you drew the border with the same brush setting as your map it'd be awesome. The map is so evocative

You can definitely be blunt. Thanks for that by the way. I appreciate it when people can discuss a map more openly rather than having to walk on glass. Redrawing the border is unlikely sadly, I am away for the weekend. So, it would be more of a scramble if I did decide to redraw it. I know somewhat of what you are refering to with the line width. Do you think a linewidth more in line with the line work I did on the pyramid would have worked? I'm quite curious.

And I appreciate your compliments. I like doing stuff that goes outside the box.

Okay here is the lighter version of the map without the border. (With an added half of a tree on the water casting a shadow down below.)
Let me know if this is preferable to the one with the border.

    EDIT:
Okay, so I thought I'd tweak the border a bit with an added texture. So, while I am away this weekend that the two versions one without the border and one with the tweaked border can be compared side by side.

I like the one without the border better, it has more of that autumn feel. While the border has a cool style, it is just too distracting. Compare the latest one with the previous, the added texture steals even more attention from the map. I wonder how it would look if you took the border's style and decorated the pyramid or some other map element in this way. I'd like to see a map of a whole city with buildings like that.
