The final version (2000x2000) of the sample map I made using my Van der Aa brush set. There's a larger version on my blog. Eventually, I'm going to figure out a way to automate the water effect I'm using on the rivers because 1) I really like it 2) I've seen it used on a lot of early-18th and 17th-century maps and 3) seems like it should be solvable.

Your brush-sets are so cool, and it's nice to see them in action! Nice job, man. If you can crack that river thing, let us know - bet quite a few of us could find use for something like that.

Oh, I will. Never saw the point of keeping things secret.

    Right now, it's a Select>Modify>Contract 5px>Fill>Contract 2px>Delete>Repeat then a Distort>Wave and some texture applied as a mask. Which is doable but time-consuming.

Yeah, I figured as much. But if there is a simpler way you can come up with, I'm definitely stealing it

Instead of filling, contracting and deleting, can't you just stroke, contract, stroke, contract etc? You can even create a automated script for that in PS, and then just do the distort thingy afterwards. If I'm not mistaken, Schwarzkreuz did something like that, but I remember trying it (ages ago), with very mixed results. Worth the try though!
