"Real life" has far too much tendency to interfere with the need to draw maps...

I really like the coastline shading. It's, what, two layers, one with a fuzzy hatching brush on some sort of scatter and one where you manually drew in some wave shapes?

Four. One very fuzzy and soft brushwork layer underneath everything at a very low opacity,
then one that's basically just a few pixels wide soft stroke around the coastline (I usually do this as a separate layer from the actual land mask, just in case I'll need to adjust both individually)
then the hatch brushwork layer (I used one of the amazing brushes from the Grut package),
and finally that manually drawn wave shape layer that you guessed was there.

Nice, thanks for expanding on your process. I could tell it wasn't just a one click style. (When I used Photoshop I used to have the land stroke separated out too, but now I keep the land base as a vectorized style.)

If I were you, I wouldn't worry too much about the deadline, your map is already looking great !

I look forward to seeing the border. I think it could balance nicely with the blue areas of the sea.

Thanks, Marc, but I am very much trying to meet the deadline. I already have a bad habit of never finishing challenge maps on time, and this year I'm trying to push past that.

I've added some more trees, and very basic shapes that will form the base of my border. Almost there!

I've arrived, boys, and I've brought the trash!

Seriously, this last stage and especially the border is so rushed and I _hate_ it, but damnit, I'm running out of time! So whatever, here it is, I'll call it done for now, I'll maybe see about redoing that border at some point.

So, yeah. I would have liked a little more time with this, but as the deadline is almost upon me, I'll call this finished for now. Not my best work, but hey, at least it's better than the original! Just for fun, I've included a version where you can see the two back-to-back.
