Map Feb/Mar '20 Lite Mapping Challenge: This isn't New Terra!

So when I saw the new mapping challenge, I thought to myself, 'what could be more scifi than an alien landscape?'

So let's say that great space ships from Earth have found a new terran planet with which to seed, and they've sent out colony ships from Earth for that specific purpose. And let's say that during the journey to New Terra, one colony ship get's knocked off course, and ends up in a whole other solar system from the one they were headed to.

Their ship has just landed, and the colonists have come out of suspended animation to find themselves on a planet that is not where they are supposed to be. I've just barely started this, but it's going to be interesting to see what comes of it!

So... I've been thinking about what this landscape would look like... and I've determined that the colors would be all wonky... it would definitely NOT look like anything normal. So I've been experimenting with colors... not necessarily anything that would match... because, of course, this landscape needs to look completely foreign.

So I've continued thinking about this alien landscape, and I thought that maybe there had been a sentient civilization, long ago. Now what would they build their cities out of? Well, the materials native to this planet, of course, but what would those materials look like?

So I started matching up colors... somewhat... and I thought it might look a little something like this:

It's cool to see those old ruins in some bright new colors!

Well that water wouldn't be void of life... there has to be something in that river.... but whether it's something space fairing adventurers would want to deal with? Who knows...

From all SciFi and Fantasy experience...there never is something good in unknown waters. I could give you my tentacle monster from the guild dungeon (https://www.cartographersguild.com/s...047#post414047) to assure adventurers, that they shouldn't take a bath .

But seriously, I like your map idea and I'm thrilled by the colours. I mostly use conservative colours, but you really made a point using these ones to give your landscape an alien look!

I think they will enjoy dealing with lobsters, even yellow, alien ones. Unless, they swarm like piranhas.....
