This scale is difficult for me -- it took me a while to start with an idea that would actually fit in just a battlemap (rather than starting at a much larger scale and then making a battlemap out of a segment of the finished large-scale map).

Ok, this is starting to come together now. Hopefully this will be the last major structural/layout change, and I can begin focusing on details.

a GURPS style hex battle map seemed more appropriate to the geometry than a D&D style square grid.

A much more interesting shape than where you started, plus the hex grid will stand it apart from the other grid maps.

    Looks good.

I agree, the shape is great and I also like the hexgrid. But, if it is possible with the program you are using, I think it would look even better with the grid not showing on top of the walls.

Starting to add some textures, which is new territory for me. I usually go for an "antique hand-drawn" aesthetic, which tends not to be very sci-fi.

Arg! Whoops, exported more than just the page. Fix coming soon...

Edit: I thought I had fixed how it was clinging to the top of the image area, but apparently not. Next time!

...And, I've let the entry/exit dive-bell-type-pool slip underneath the floor and out of sight again. Why do I not notice these things until after I post? lol.

Oh! I should probably note the water, floor and bed textures are from https://www.textures.com.

I like the layout so far.
I have never used battle maps as a player, but I think I'd even remove the grid not only from the walls but also from objects that are not really meant to be "walkable" either. Not the water, but maybe the tables/chairs?
But who knows, maybe they are to be used in the battle!

But: I'd liked the version without the bevel/highlight effect on the hex grid more than the last version. It's nice to have the grid for orientation, but in the recent versions it seems to stand out a little bit too much.

(Noticing things only after posting - ha, it always happens to me as well. I think it helps to see the picture in a new surrounding (colors etc) other than your graphics software).

I agree, in my maps I keep the grid in the background and minimized. (of course it is your map, make it your way)
