March 2020 Mapping Challenge: The Penguin's Lair

I am going to try to recreate The Penguin's Lair in the sewers under Gotham. This is where Danny DeVito meets his end in Batman Returns.

Ah, such a great idea! I've always loved Danny DeVito's / Tim Burton's Penguin, and such a cool lair. I look forward to watching this develop.

Thanks, It will be difficult to give a top-down map that Gothic-Gotham look, but I'm going to try.

I worked on the walls and shadows and stairs. Next I think will be a better water texture.

Thanks, It will be difficult to give a top-down map that Gothic-Gotham look, but I'm going to try.

The trick is going to be going in on a layer in a raster program once you've set it all up and adding some darker shadows to places with a really fuzzy brush. I know you don't usually do painting overlays, but to get that Gotham look, I think it's almost mandatory you add some deep shadows by hand. That'll sell it.

You could even make the water texture from a screenshot from the movie! But I have one that's not on this computer that I'm on right now, I posted it halfway down the thread here. https://app.roll20.net/forum/post/81...ding-interiors

It might work well. I'd probably do a raster layer on top with a fuzzy brush and add those light reflections in the water, and a bit of darkness around the edges.

I will definitely use it in the future, but it was to difficult to incorporate into this map.
