Default Mar/Apr '20 Lite Mapping Challenge: Isle del Muerta

This challenge intrigued me, so of course I had to enter! And since everyone is stuck at home due to Covid-19 lockdowns, I'm finding myself with not much to do, and a lot of free time on my hands... so, perhaps, I can give this challenge map the attention it deserves!

I thought long and hard about what kind of adventure island I would want to create. I didn't want to make something up this time, but I wanted this map to be useful in just about any adventure. And then it donned on me... Isle del Muerta.. Isle of the Dead. You know the one... that island that can't be found... unless you already know where to look.

At this point, I'm just at the preliminary stages... getting the overall outline of the island, and adding the beaches. I'm hoping to take this map slower than I usually do, and really get in there to add some details.... but we will see how that pans out. So here is my beginning ideas...

Welcome, and that's a nice start!

Suggestion: If you want this to be a Spanish name, it would be "Isla de la Muerta"

I do know the Spanish translation, but I'm doing my interpretation of the Isle del Muerta from 'Pirates of the Carribean'

so here is the latest update, I'm starting to work on the mountain ranges. Let me know what you think so far

Well, I've continued my work on the mountain ranges... and I think I have them the way I like them. Now some of these mountains are caused by the volcanic lava that flows when the volcano erupts, and some of them have developed due to earthquakes and whatever other natural disasters occur on this set of islands. The same thing with the hills, which is why you have that set of black hills up near the top, where others have a more, natural look. I've also set my cliffs (every tropical island should have those!), so I'm ready to start with the rivers next. It's not looking very interesting right now... but I hope it will get more interesting as the island developes.

I've decided that trying to get to Isle del Muerta is as difficult as finding it. They say that Isle del Muerta can only be found by those that already know where to look. Perhaps that saying extends to being able to land on its shores. One can land safely on its shores, only if one already knows where it's safe to land. Which is one reason why the Isle del Muerta rarely gives up its treasure.

So in this installment, I added some of the treacherous waters around the island, as well as its lakes and rivers. It's really starting to take shape.. although it's still looking a little weird at this point. Once I start adding landmarks, jungles and the rest, it should come together quite nicely. At this point, I consider myself about half way done.

I like the treacherous rocks around the island but I think there should be a lot more if it is truly hard to get there.
