Fantasy world timeline creation

Looking for a program, preferably freeware, which will facilitate creating a fantasy world calender and historical
timeline with a zoomable linear view and granularity from millenia down to single years, any ideas?

For a zoomable timeline like you describe, there is this tool ChronoZoom, if it is still functioning, it could be a good match. Not sure about a custom calendar tool, but there are probably some spreadsheet tricks that can be adapted for that purpose.

For an alternate timeline program, with a little bit of math & creative layout, you could also use a GIS program like QGIS as a free tool to draw out a millennial timeline, plot and label points correctly along the line, and still zoom/out easily to specific locations (dates). It’d just be a time map, and not a place map. But the principles work in the same way. Anyways, just some thoughts, hope that can help
