Default May/June '20 Lite Mapping Challenge: The Twin Cities of Marin 6

As per the rules of this challenge, the inspiration picture (but you knew I would pick this one, right? You were baiting me with the purple colors, I just know it. >_>)

I always enjoy seeing your coloring choices. You have a great knack for working with unusual schemes and getting them to blend together cohesively for a nice visual. Suspect this is gonna be killer once its done.

Thanks, Bogie. To be fair, I didn't pick the colors, the colors picked me.

Styescape, you'll only turn a profit if you bet on things that aren't a sure thing. Glad you liked step 1.

Mateus, due to how this map is made, yeah, that's how it begins. The land is a 3D render, so it came together very fast compared to a had-drawn map.

Greason, yes, well, to be fair I did not pick the color scheme though I was drawn to it. I see not everyone is using the same colors as the inspiration picture. I do think the dreamy color scheme turned out great, but, who knows if I'll botch it all in the styling on top.

Thanks, Kier. Of course I did swipe the colors from the inspiration image... well, I didn't eyedropper them, I just eyeballed it. I like it, but now I've done a thing and I don't know.

I can't believe it's taken me so long to start trying more science fiction.

So, I decided to change the orientation and mimic the sci-fi lighting panel on the city edges for the trim. The panels are blue in the picture

but I don't like it on the trim! It doesn't pull the picture together right. So I changed it to red and the same color as the platforms.

I still need to do some sort of artwork for the cities and the other named locations... I'm imagining like a luxe casino on that little planet which attracts a curious blend of Marin 7 laborers and miners burning through their paycheque and visitors from Marin 6.

Also, I did some research and the original image is actually the planet Ordalla by z-design. But it's too late, I'm done my text. https://www.deviantart.com/z-design/...alla-148665275

This is so good and a very unique map!
I know everyone loves the color scheme, which is awesome, but i also want to point out your font choice. Blends very well!
