Farmer silk, lovely idea. I saw one of the spider used fo this in a silk museum. They are still "farmed" to make some silk (for special forces, military protection mainly).
See for example a spider silk mantle : https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soie_d..._silk_cape.jpg

    and the loooovely spider : https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nephila :-D

That's insane, I had no idea it was a real thing. Now we only need the dwarves to make it financially viable.

A few different layers, but bevel effects do most of the work in terms of getting the elevated effect. I'm stilling working on finding a cool look for waves that will be splashing on the rocks and running more calmly through the canals.

Damn it, why do I look up pictures of spiders on the internet when I know perfectly well that I hate spiders and can't stand the sight of them!?

I feel like it wouldn't be dwarves but a different, weirder race that has expertise in spider silk farming. Especially since the spiders aren't just regular real-world spiders, but big and colorful and ugly fantasy spiders.

Still working on a look for waves lapping at the coastline. Experimented with the mainland coast, but, as you can see, it's kinda meh, so far.

Also still looking for a cool artsy frame for the portraits and the map as a whole. Nondescript black thing is just a placeholder for now. If you have a suggestion, let me know.

And yes, that is the aforementioned spider farm, cages and all. Not very many people keen on having that as a neighbor, it seems.
