Thread: May/June '20 Lite Challenge: Castle at the Edge

  1. #1

Post May/June '20 Lite Challenge: Castle at the Edge

I am combining two of the image ideas and creating a castle at the edge of the world. Beyond seems to be empty space, but better to have defenses incase the dark comes knocking.

This is a first rough draft, and I am not at all happy with the mountains, but I think the background came out pretty well. This took me about 3 hours to generate. I am going to remake the land mass with the same shape, just better detailing. As this is my first challenge, any criticism is greatly appreciated!

Agreeing with Kier, the starfield is fantastic! Welcome to the challenge.

I fixed the WIP tag for you. You can copy and paste this onto your next post or you can use the WIP button on the toolbar.

Keep in mind that if you have more than 1 image on that post you don't know which one it will select.

I updated the mountain like I said and added rivers. I think I am fairly happy with the landscape, now to flush out the cities and castle. I drew a temporary castle complex in the far north of the land. I am playing with scale to see what makes sense. Any comments or criticisms are welcome!

If I had to nitpick anything it would be your snowy mountain peaks/ridges. Everything else has a nice texture to it except those. Having said that, however, I know it can be tough trying to add texture to white. This is looking good though and agree with others, the star field came out STELLAR.

I've added some forests and details to the roofs (why does this f come out as a v when I say it?)

Probably because Rooves is a secondary plural form of roof that is still used in some areas.

the southeast US seems to prefer the old "replace ending f's with ves to make words plural", but I did look up the rule and see that there is apparently a shift to help "standardize" English to minimize exceptions.
