    Map Military chart on Morlond

    Hey fellow guildmates !

I'm really happy today to finally be allowed to share this one with you

Back in June, I was very surprised to be contacted by Games Workshop. They asked me if I wanted to work for them on a map for Warhammer 40 K with a tight deadline. Of course I said yes and I have to admit, I answered before we even talked about the project or the money.

I was asked to draw a military chart inspired by late 19th - early 20th century military maps. The map was supposed to show a fortified complex on the world of Morlond for a book written by Dan Abnett. The title is "The Sabbat Worlds Crusade" and you can get it while I type this. They wanted a top down view, no scale and no orientation and an elegant border for a map in mint condition. I tried to deliver an elegant yet functional and simple map. I hop I succeeded

As you can imagine, I had lots of fun with the forests and the winged skull.

The map was originally drawn at 350 dpi but I'm only allowed to share a 72 dpi image (which is pretty downgraded). Hopefully, I received the book two weeks ago and I can share a (better quality !) picture

    Hope you like it !

Thanks Actually, it is not a texture but some parts were cloned and mixed. It was a long process nonetheless.

That is excellent Thomas! And congrats on such a high profile commission. You did a wonderful job on this. The map is both readable/functional and very attractive. I wish I could rep you for this but apparently I've still got to spread the love around a bit. Fantastic work though.

    Cheers,

Wow, congratulations! Working for GW is a big deal .
I'm not that surprised, though, considering your mapping talents ! It's a very fine map, with full and easy legibility.

Thanks a lot Tad It was not an usual map for me but it taught me some stuff and reinforced my hatred towards cartographic forests of course.

Merci beaucoup Julien Glad you find it legible, the military chart part was not an evidence for me at first and I had to do my homework.
