Lands surrounding the World Heart

I imagine this as the first piece of a 9 panel map. The core of the world. In terms of creation process it begins with pencil sketching, then refining the shape of the coastlines. This is followed by adding in the other features where appropriate, and then inking everything. I make sure to add a little shading to the coasts to make them stand out. Once the ink version is complete, including placement of names, it is scanned into the PC. I will then add the parchment background, shade the water, and then add finishing touches like shading the mountains and forests. All in all it takes about 6-8 hours of work.
