Default Nov/Dec 2020 Lite Challenge: Bits n Bobs

The first item I want to make is a wind rose. I've always wanted to have a shot at making one of those way out Medieval style ones. I've got the framework down for this one. I'm using Inkscape to get the basic outline and then I'll start adding other bits to it.

I've added a Fleur de Lys and a cross for east plus the four main pointers.

Straf: "With a map and a compass I could go anywhere " True, but it helps to have a boat as well.

Great to see you in the challenge my friend! You are off to a very good start!

Cheers Bogie. It's nice to be doing stuff again.

I've sort of finished with the main design and now it's over to GIMP to play about with colouring it. The colours you see are just to tell me what goes where. I'm going to try to make a washed out ink look for the blue and red parts and the black parts I want to try creating some sort of weathered gold leaf effect.

The different components will be made into separate layers so I can use masks to let through the appropriate colour layer beneath it.

Nice, I love the main arrows in blue and red. Will you color everything?

Here is a seamless gold leaf I made you can try.

The colors really pop, but I like the sound of your idea to make them weathered or faded looking.

Right I've had a few days away from this project but I've now done my gold leaf bit.

That's as transparency. I need to build it up in layers so I'm going to be working on a washed out/faded effect for the blue and the red.

I wanted to share the gold leaf texture but it's too large to upload.

Oh and I scaled down the Fleur de Lis because it was a little bit too bulbous for my liking.

Well here's the washed out version of it. I'll try it on some parchment background in the next few posts.
