I had figured since the copyright was embedded that was adequate credit. Additionally it was hot-liked to the originating site, not uploaded here. Changed to a URL anyway.

I create my own stuff anyway. I only use photos for reference. Thanks for the post's. What I'm going to do is copy the map borders layers to a new photoshop file, then double the size of it. Then I'm going to draw in the walls, with some of those towers at key places. Once I'm done and satisfied, I'll reduce that file size 50% so the wall will align with the borders where they should be. I'll just import that into my map file, and maybe add a little shadows & such to it.

I'll post an update when I'm done - probably a few weeks. Anyway - thanks for the feedback.

Giving credit does not mean you are allowed to then use a copyrighted work.

Uploading or embedding doesn't really make a difference I guess since the end result is the same. That said, embedding an image hosted on another site is at least bad manners, even if the photo is OK to use, because you then abuse the other site's bandwidth.

Last but not least, why use something copyrighted and unlicensed when some good cc-licensed examples exist?

I don't want to start a copyright debate here. I am only familiar with Canadian copyright, which has a fairly liberal fair-use clause, under which reproducing elements of copyright material for things such as reference, research, and satire are perfectly acceptable, which was in line with my intent in providing it as a reference.
