February 2022 Challenge: College of Stormheart

Hi! Thus the remastering begins!

Hehe, to be fair, I quite like the first map. But me being me, when it comes to a challenge I choose the hard route. So, for this one, I'm going all perspective and everything.

I would love to hear your feedback and even what you would like to see. Especially since, this map is meant for a big adventure with an RPG.

Anyway, here is the older map.


Also I'm thinking about how I want to represent cave system map that is part of the area.

Hi there,

This is my lineart so far. I actually had written a piece about this college, but for the time being I'm unable to find it.

So the short of it. One of the teachers, a mage, at the college found something inside the mountain, something old and forgotten. But he feels there is a great danger. Alas, the other teachers at the college don't believe him.

Hi Omri!

Man, where do you come up with those crazy skies in your maps... I'd lighten and soften the shadows of the building, cause right now it doesn't match the mountains' shading and sticks out oddly. Unless you're planning to do the same shadow for the mountains, but then too much area would end up in the shadows, I think. That shadow angle is tricky.

Hehehe, I do like cool skies. Glad you like it. Well, I often sit the afternoon looking out over sunsets. It helps in color choices(And being super relaxing ). Anyway, I took an orange brush to the skies and then took a saturated purple(lower opacity) to the right side and progressively made it darker to the one side. Quite a simple technique, mainly it was about the color choice.

So, the way I feel about the buildings at moment is the fact that it is catching some sunlight, which would cause harder shadows. I do, however, still feel I need to spend quite a bit of time on my mountains to get the colors right there. It's still early days.
BUT, very grateful that you took some time to give some feedback! I'll see if I can figure it out a little bit better.

In the end I did lower the cast shadows a tad on the buildings, good call Kisachik.

Also, I started redoing the lineart up the right side of the map. I feel happier with the direction.

Okay, so it is twofold. Getting closer to finishing my lineart, and with that I painted in my trees. It took a while, but I still would like some feedback.

Today, I tackled the town. It was a bit tricky to figure out where I wanted the buildings, but eventually the layout came together. Plus an added bonus! My first attempt at a perspective farm.

All in all stuff is progressing nicely. Though, I still have to tackle the mountains somewhere...

The town is looking really nice! I especially like how you included the blue-ish tree again, making me wonder if there's cultural significance to it in the town as it's in the centre of that plaza/square
