Map Maps for a city made entirely of boats for a fantasy RPG video game

    Hello, guys!

I've been lurking around the guild as an anon for a few years. I've always found super cool the dedication everyone around here puts into cartography

Now I have a project that I'd like to commission the work of a professional to do for a game that I'm working on

    Description
The project consists of a big map of fantastical city that is made entirely of boats - there is no firm land anywhere in the city.
It sits in a strait between two continents, where the water is shallower and calmer. These boats, of different sizes, have anchored here for centuries and form the city, being connected to each other by wooden bridges. Many other boats come and go, bringing goods of different places
It's called The Bucanneers' Den - a lawless place that pirates, corsairs, mercenaries, bandits and monster hunters from all around the world gather to drink, party, make money and prepare in-between their affairs

Here, we have the world's largest black market, where you can find literally anything

There are waterways - avenues where it's generally forbidden to cross a bridge that is too high, for ferrymen carry people around the city. The "streets", formed across varied height decks and bridges, are bustling with activity of all sorts

The city also sits right before a giant coral reef, right before the seas form into the Furious Ocean, after the Serpe's Rest, which is an atoll that is known to be the mating place for various sea monsters. This generates activity as the hunters gather, group and prepare before venturing forth beyond the reef to hunt monsters and come back (though not always) with materials, oftentimes rare or magical

The Den is a fully-fledged city, with farms, taverns, houses, brothels, everything made atop of boats - there is even a big grove in the middle of the city, which is kept by one of the oldest shamans in the world.

The map is going to be interactive within the world, in a way that is somewhat similar to the game Roadwarden, so we'll need the assets in a way that we can isolate them and highlight them. We also accept art suggestions on how to highlight regions and icons
We'll also need "zoom-ins": more detailed versions of each region of the city

I can share more details of what we want in each region later, but we have the mind of letting the artist have creative authority to determine things as well - we'll leave most of the details for you and trust your judgement

    Style
    Hand-drawn

Not fully top-down, something along these lines:

    Hi

This project sounds really interesting and I'd like to put in my name for consideration. I work part-time as a cartographer but given your timeline this project seems very achievable within my usual work time. I specialise in Isometric city maps and Isometric assets so I'm accustomed to a more sectional approach to map making which will be required on this project for creating individually selectable sections. I also have a software engineering background which may give me some additional insight into creating a map that can be easily integrated into your game.

Take a look at my Map Gallery and Commission Information and if you're interested in my work you can contact me at minishcartography (at) gmail.com

Hello! I love settings related to pirates. I'm a fantasy cartographer and architect, interested in being considered for your project. My background could contribute to region and city composition. I'd also like to diversify my portfolio. Check my work on Instagram, and feel free to contact me via email for more details. I usually draw by hand, on ipad pro on procreate! Cheers!
