Palette testing for a larger long-term project

As the title says I'm testing out color palettes for a much longer-term project, but I'm still unsure if this is the direction I want to go in, or if my color choices are solid. Thoughts?

I think your colors are fine. They all are distinct and readable, which is good. Maybe add a whitish for the highest elevations above the red to make the mountain peaks stand out a little more.

Looks good but I'd opt for some shades of brown for the mountains, and a cap of snow on the tallest peaks. What program are you using? Gimp or Photoshop?

Pretty much all I've ever used was Gimp. Not really interesting in paying for Photoshop (or having to learn a new program at this point)
