Link My new favorite font site

    I found this site:
    http://www.moorstation.org/typoasis/...emnew/home.htm

Where they are offering up several hundred fonts, many, many which are super for fantasy mapping, either as label text or as heading text!

Also, jump over to the lab:
    http://www.moorstation.org/typoasis/.../lab/index.htm

for a bunch more, and the Futurex project for SCI-fi fonts:
    http://www.moorstation.org/typoasis/...turex_home.htm

The whole site is a community font collection:
    http://www.moorstation.org/typoasis/allfonts.htm

    (Brilliant!)

Here are some of the fonts I've loved for maps and similar things. Really depends on the style of your "map author" I find.

Each of them is "Font Name: letter examples". They have all been very good to me at different times.

Have a look at this: The Alphabet Synthesis Machine. Allows you to create your own own font by using a 'seed glyph' which acts as the base of the font. Good for alien type scripts.

Example of one I created below.

Now that's some crazy stuff...me likey too. As an aside, Vgunn pointed me to a site that has a bunch of foreign, ancient, and alien looking things plus a lot of the common stuff.

    www.fonts.ro

It seems to be broken a lot so try it again the next day if it doesn't load. You can only download 20 freebies per day unless your register a handle.

Oh I certainly like that site, lots of good dingbats. And most of their stuff is not only quality but it's free.

I've seen plenty of mentions of DaFont in here, but none of Fontspace. It's a nice alternative and it has plenty of fonts that DaFont doesn't, because they're all user-submitted. I found a few good nonsense language fonts in various flavors there, including a few cuneiform ones. You don't see enough cuneiform nowadays. It's also organized by tags rather than by category, so you could for instance look up "horror handwritten" and come up with all the fonts that bear both tags.
