Aug/Sept 2017 Two Month Summer Challenge

Our latest regular challenge was a bit special. Instead of the usual month-long event, Diamond opted for a two month contest. In a nutshell, entrants had to select three previous challenges, and combine them into one map. Diamond explained...

The idea is courtesy of Straf, who suggested that we run a Challenge where we combine themes from Challenges past. Here's the way it will work:

--Below, you'll find two lists, the first made up of 12 Regular Challenges from years past, and the second list made up of 6 Lite Challenges.

--Pick TWO Regular Challenges and ONE Lite Challenge. What you pick is entirely up to you, as long as you choose 2 Regular and 1 Lite.

--Combine your three picks to create a map. How you combine them and what type of map you end up with is entirely up to you, BUT where the "challenge" part of the Challenge comes in is that you must follow all of the guidelines that were laid down in the original Challenges.

    --Choose wisely!

Our winner this month is Mouse with entry 'O'Gray's Pearls'. The map shows a series of portal bubbles in the orbit of a white dwarf, named after stellar explorer, Captain Fredericka O'Gray. Mouse's map incorporated three themes: Filling a Gap in Space and Time, Urban Mapping and Fun with Isometrics. Congrats to Mouse on winning her second gold compass. Check out the WIP thread here.

Thanks to all who entered, and our commiserations to those who suffered everything from personal injury to broken computers! Our thoughts are with you!

    October 2017 Challenge : A Word, A Quest

Our new challenge is up and running, and we're back to the usual monthly format. Diamond explains this month's topic...

Think of all the classic fantasy and science fiction that revolves around the quest motif - our heroes have to trek through the wilderness (or a city, or a space station, etc etc) in search of a fabled object of power, or a way to dispose of same; or maybe they're looking for a reclusive hermit who's actually a powerful mage. Maybe they're looking for a lost city. Maybe they're hunting for exotic and rare animals in a dark jungle.

Now that you have a refresher , here's how this will work: below, you'll find a list of 30 words. Pick AT LEAST five (5) of those words, and draw a map depicting an epic quest that revolves around those words. The style, subject matter (as long as it somehow includes those five words), and setting is completely up to you.

Dragon Gun Sword Star Cave Road Tavern Hidden Dark Legendary
Gem Midnight Alone Empire Piercing Temple Axis House Wandering Port
Master/Mistress Knowledge Silver Peacock Freezing Gold Eye Fortress Child Victory

So let's see some epic quests from you! More info in the thread here, and check out the current entries here.
