    Default Simkin sketches and experiments

Hi, as others members did, I copied the idea of creating a thread for my sketches and "experiments".

I want to do a big city top down view, so I'm creating the differents buildings. Here some tries, just to know what do u think about them.

That will be a very detailed approach with some of those styles but they look really good. Can't wait to see what you'll do with them.

Thank Arimel and Tilt. The idea is to scan every building, put them as I imagine the city (coping what I need), then print it and at this point I will draw the streets, the details, hills, stairs ecc. Just an experiment.

These look great. I can't wait to see the final product. Will you be colouring the map once done?

Thanks Kai, I would colour the map if all goes as planned.

I digitalized my set of "buildings and places" of the city:

Then I do a test map to know How would it be... but many problems come out:

    1. the backgorund colour of the scanned images is grey and to render them with a white background will cost to me to much time (other option is to left it as a B/W map)

    2. when I put the diferrents pieces in the map, if I rotate or scale them, they loose quality

    3. I'm suspecting that do the map all hand drawn will take me the same amount of time of the process I'm trying here

That's a quick map I've done for my DnD campaign, is the destroyed village where some of the PC was born.

Nice work and very clean scans!

I did try this kind of technique when I did my Aquilonia map (here). But yeah, since it's not vector elements, you're definitely loosing quality each time you change them a bit (especially with size/rotation).

Thank you Ilanthar, I definetively decided to do the map all hand draw, I will use my sketches to do the buildings faster I hope.
