Default *** September 2021 Challenge: Taking Shape ***

Esteemed cartographers, has this ever happened to you? You are walking along, with a delicious beverage in your hand, and then you stumble and drop your drink right on the floor. And as you stare at the spilled drink in deep despair, suddenly the mapper part of your brain takes another look at that puddle, and whispers: "That's a cool shape. I could map it."

(The above anecdote has, in no shape or form, been inspired by true events. Honest.)

So for this month's challenge, let yourselves be inspired by random shapes all around us. Stains, cracks, clouds, liquids – anything can become a map.
I have collected a handful of images from the archives of Unsplash (100% free resource) that looked cool to me. Pick any one of these, or alternatively find your own, and let the image serve as a starting point for your map. How exactly you choose to use it is up to you – get creative!

The challenge will end on Thursday, 30th of September! Come and claim your gold compass, be the envy of all your friends!

As always, remember to title your threads thusly: September 2021 Challenge: <<your title here>>
and don’t forget to use the WIP tag when posting your images.

The challenge goes until 31st of September, right?

Awesome idea! Totally coincidentally, this exact thing happened to me less than a week ago. So, this begs the question, when can I have seen the inspiring shape vs. when can I have started work on the map to be eligible for the monthly challenge?

It was a set of ink splotches in my wife's notebook. I transcribed the outline as soon as I saw them so I wouldn't have to keep borrowing her notebook, but haven't done anything else: https://twitter.com/jpshoer/status/1432536761293545472 Can I use this or should I find something else?

I think it should be okay, but I leave final judgement to Kellerica.

Until the end of the month, yes. I did have to double check, but September does seem to have only 30 days

Seeing the shape won't really count as having started, but I suppose if you have already traced the outline, that would strictly speaking mean you have started working on the map before the challenge. I'd definitely say use the shape, but if you want to 101% comply with the challenge rules might maybe want to do the outline again fresh? Up to you - I won't forbid you to enter either way

That's a good enough excuse for me to do a better job centering the shape and tracing it!

Haha I am an insecure boundle of nervousness. It shouldn't make me nervous not to hear opinions about my first sketch *rofl*
