Wip December 2022 Challenge: Dhar Maqdah

It has been a crazy few months, but finally have some time for another challenge map. I am going to do a Canyon Town in a variation of my typical semi-realistic town map style. I am starting with a base terrain of the canyon which I created in Gaia. I tried too make it more stylized than realistic and will paint it over partially in Gimp before creating the town and the rest of the map.

Ok, I'm done for tonight. Here's where I am at. This canyon is based off the vibrant green canyon valleys, home to many beautiful ancient towns, with sandy deserts above found in parts of Yemen.

Your landscape is looking good so far. I look forward to seeing where you go with this one.

Very nice, is this a real place?

No, But it is inspired by photos of several towns in Yemen including this one:

Some updates. I worked a bit on the frame and I have started adding in the town itself, no frills so far.

Very very cool. I was a little thrown by the brown line bordering the river, but now that you've got buildings in there for scale comparison, I can tell it's a beach/shore. I love the layout of this, and the hyper-realistic shadows.

Thanks! The shore line definitely needs a bit of work still. The challenge of going with a realistic style is that it is very unforgiving if you don't get the look just right.

Also I will have to post a higher resolution version as a link when I'm done. This compressed version looks pretty bad zoomed in, compared to what it should look like.

The work on the rocky cliffs is impressive and the sense of depth excellent. Looking forward to see more.

    Thank you Ilanthar!

Here is the latest update. Worked on some texturing and also added the Necropolis.
