Map April 2023 Challenge: Cabals of Cydonia

I’m a little late to the party, but I started doodling a couple days ago and now I’m at the point where I feel like it’s never going to work so I figure I better commit myself to it

This giant crater is home to the Cabals who work their schemes across the world but mostly scheme against each other for supremacy. But in the confines of the Crater it is far too easy to exaggerate your self-importance…

Definitely looking forward to seeing this one grow. I like the linework! It is already looking good. (Maybe add a cave? Might be interesting to see a crater map with a cave entrance)

A very nice start, Meshon, and kudos for your commitment. I started one as well but if I commit it to the challenge I might have to make up a backstory that the cartographer went crazy, took a long vacation and never finished the map, heh.

I actually tried a tunnel early on and couldn’t get it to work but your comment inspired me to try again, thanks!

The stories are so fun though! I was looking at the time lapse so far and I completely re-started at least a couple times.

Here's an update with a fungal forest, a tunnel, and a typography test!

It’s getting close, and so is the deadline! I have a little more lettering to do and probably 10,000 more tiny lines

I don’t know how many lines I ended up with. Having the benefit of hindsight I would have probably just used a brush fill instead of drawing little squiggles every where, but that's the great thing about these challenges, you get to try new things, even if the idea seems ridiculous! Here's my final map

Well worth the final product! This came out beautifully. The linework is superb.

I hadn't intended to colour this, it's supposed to be like something you'd find in a cheap scifi pulp magazine from back in the day. And the shading is supposed to be implied by the lines lines. But I got sick and this evening in a fever, my brain just said "purple!" so I guess here's one more update.
