Default Aug / Sep 17 Lite Challenge: Mossford

I thought I'd try something a bit different so I've decided to try to make a hand drawn map, hand coloured, hand labelled. Here's my first scan:

There's no backstory really, it's just one of those ordinary places that grew up around a road/river intersection. It has a pub or two (I think one is called The Gargling Oyster) and maybe some sort of recreation ground, a few houses. Oh and it probably doesn't exist except in my head. Perhaps it will be of use when it's finished. And yes, that is a Post-it note - I'm not labelling it until I know where everything is going but I still wanted to put a title on it.

    That looks interesting, Straf

Keep the pencil maybe a tad sharper (though not so sharp that it cuts the paper), and use lighter strokes - in case there's a mistake.

This should turn out to be a lot different to your usual maps

I've just realised that I'm drawing it on crappy printer paper and not a sheet from my sketch pad! (_8(|) - D'oh!

Oh well, I'll start again but with a better idea about what I'm doing

Thanks JO, this is a new approach for me the hand drawn thing but what the heck - it's not a capital offence to be rubbish at drawing and doing these challenges is a kind of therapy on the brain

Thanks ChickPea are you implying that I'd be the sort of person who'd start writing their dissertation after leaving the pub the night before it's due in? I'd lower those expectations if I were you

Cheers Bogie. I thought I'd try something new. Everyone seems to be doing a fantasy village so I'm just doing a dull, ordinary village that I've made up

So I restarted on some better paper. I haven't coloured anything yet. I'm sort of scared to start inking as it's permanent. YIKES! But at least I have this scan to go back on if the original goes hooters to the heavens!

That's progressed a lot from the first sketch. "The Street" very original!

It seems to be a tradition or an old charter or something around here, calling at least one road "The Street", so I thought I'd stick one in . I'm wondering if Goat's Green Rd was originally Goat Street but someone misread or misheard ye olden dayes word for street (gata) as goat. This sort of thing happens all too often you know!
