after creating a HeightMap a first run render in Blender

and a 8 bit normalized copy of the HeightMap
( the full size looks better them this "ugly preview" )
now on to adding a colored texture to the 3d mesh

second render , i need to go back and mask off the DEM and reimport into blender there is a bit too much noise in the water and a small issue with the texture lining up on the west side ( left )

That is impressive. I downloaded Blender once, but got scared and turtled.
That is amazing! I too have failed to get Blender to do anything I wanted (I think I managed the castle tutorial and that's it).
