• February 2016 Challenge 'Map a Novel' Results

The February 2016 regular challenge was "Map a Novel". Guilders were challenged to map a locale from a novel or short story of any genre.

Locale was defined as literally anywhere featured in a novel, including (to quote Diamond's words) "world, regional, city, town, village, hamlet, goatherder's hut, dungeon, part of a dungeon, temple, cathedral, forest, desert, salt mine, space station, starship, bridge, building, tavern, inn, mutant stronghold, castle, road encounter, hat factory, taco stand, barnyard, asteroid field, cyborg rally point, doctor's office, mayor's office, mafia boss' office, turkey farm.......... "

Sadly, there were no entries for taco stands, though maybe some day...

We had some gorgeous entries this month, including Ravells' version of Blood Song, and the Sword of Shannara by Troedel. Voting was exceptionally close, with only one vote separating the winner from the second placed map. However, our warmest congratulations go to Carnifex for beating out the competition with his beautiful map of Middle Earth. You can see the WIP thread here. Honourable mention to runner-up Max for his fantastic line art version of The Elder Isles from Jack Vance's Lyonesse trilogy. Thanks to everyone who took part, and we're holding Xpian and Larb to their word that they'll finish their entries soon!

One final thank you with regard to the February challenge: Diamond graciously offered a $20 gift card to the winner of this challenge, as an extra incentive. Instead of accepting the prize, Carnifex instead asked that Diamond donate the funds to the Guild to help towards our server costs. We'd like to publicly thank both Diamond for his initial generosity, and Carnifex for his donation. These kind gestures are very much appreciated by everyone at the Guild.

Now on to the new challenge....

The March 2016 challenge is live, and this month's idea comes from Carnifex (his reward for winning last month!) Guilders are challenged to "Map An Underground Complex".

Carnifex says "...in challenges, dungeon/underground maps are rarely placed high... so I suggest a dungeon/underground map contest. It could be a fantasy battle map or a cave, or an underground crypt, a subway map, or even a post apocalyptic enclave!"

So, people, you have your brief. Let's see some dungeons! More info and entry submissions in the Challenge thread.
